Since 1965, the Almaden Valley Women's Club (AVWC) has been committed to serving the needs of the Almaden community and those of greater San Jose, through its proceeds at the annual Almaden Art & Wine Festival. Our mission is to provide charitable financial assistance to local educational institutions, non-profit children's foundations, teen programs and community organizations.  Funding varies from year to year depending upon the proceeds of its annual Art and Wine Festival.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:

1.      An educational institution (elementary, middle and high school) located in the 95120 and 95118 zip code areas;

2.      A local non-profit organization tax exempt under IRS 501 (c) 3.  If needed, further supplemental documentation may be required to verify non-profit status upon final award of grant.

GRANT CRITERIA:

Applications shall be considered based on the following criteria:

1.      Identifies and serves a need that promotes the greatest impact to those it serves;

2.      Benefits the majority of the population it serves;

3.      Supplements an existing need that further enhances performance, availability and accessibility;

4.      Provides a cost effective project design

Additional Criteria:

Priority is given to applicants having an active role in the annual Almaden Art and Wine Festival.  Examples: participating in the Logo Contest and Children’s Calendar, providing student volunteers, working food booths, etc.

FUNDS AVAILABLE:

Funds available are dependent upon the proceeds from the annual Almaden Art and Wine Festival and vary from year to year.  For the past few years, the Almaden Valley Women’s Club has distributed an average of $40,000 per year for Community Grants.

·    Only one grant per year may be awarded to an educational institution or non-profit organization.

·    Applicants may apply up to $2000 for a grant.  Grant requests beyond the maximum of $2000 will not be considered.

BUDGET:

·   Salaries for a new position or to supplement an existing position may not be used for these funds.

·   Acceptable budget items may include supplies, books, materials or other things that will enhance the proposed project.

DEADLINE:

Community grant applications are due by October 13, 2008. Grants will be announced November 4, 2008.
